The Battle OF wake Island
Battle of Wake Island was a offensive launched by the Japanese Empire. If they took Wake Island they could eventually reach the United States. The United States had 373 Marines and 15 officers before Japanese Forces took the island. They held a strong defensive. The Japanese launched the attack on Wake Island the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor. The Japanese deployed 450 Navy special forces to take the island. It was a big victory for Japan. They held the US forces there as hostages and executed some of the civilians on the island. After Japan takes control of the island the United States bombed the island until they surrendered.
The Battle for Midway Island
The Battle of Midway was another offensive by Japanese Forces. They tried to take the island so they could attack Pearl Harbor again. US intelligence cracked the code that the Japanese Empire made. The US informed Admiral Chester Nimitz about the plans about attacking Midway Island. On June 3rd 1942 100 Japanese planes bombed Midway Island. Lots of supplies were destroyed. When the Japanese were doing their bombing runs the USS Yorktown, the USS Enterprise and the USS Hornet were attacking the Japanese Naval Forces. The USS Yorktown sunk and the USS Enterprise was set on fire. The Japanese Forces managed to lose 4 of its naval ships and soon retreated. This was a loss for the Japanese. This boosted the moral for the United States.
