Allied Scientists
James Franck: James Franck was born on August 26th, 1882, in Hamburg, Germany. He graduated from Berlin university in 1906, after which he worked with fellow scientist Gustav Hertz in experimenting with atoms and electrons. Franck served in the first world war with the Germans and afterword's became a professor of experimental psychics. Franck didn't like Hitler's ideas, so in 1933 he left Nazi Germany and went to the United States. While there he joined the Manhattan Project and helped develop atom bombs. When they were finished Germany had surrendered, and Franck and another scientist made a petition that got signed by all of the other scientists that opposed the use of the bombs on morale grounds. Truman ignored the petition and later dropped the bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Albert Einstein: Albert Einstein was born on March 14th, 1879 in Ulm, Germany. He didn't like the German's militarism so took a Swiss nationality in 1901. While there he was appointed examiner at the Swiss Patent Office. While he worked there he started publishing his original papers on his theories about physics. In 1905 he published his Theory of Relativity. Einstein was a well known physicist and won a noble prize in physics in 1921. Because he was a Jew he suffered prejudice in Germany, and was even told that he was likely to be murdered. When Hitler came to power, Einstein's house in Germany was attacked by the SS. Einstein was in California at the time. Einstein had helped start the Manhattan Project because he didn't want Germany to create a atomic bomb first.

Axis Scientists
Werner Heisenberg: Heisenberg was born on December 5th, 1901 in Wurzburg, Germany. During World War 2, he was appointed to the head of the German team of scientists that were trying to develop nuclear weapons. At the time they were months behind the allied scientists in creating nuclear weapons. Heisenberg and his team were arrested by the allies in April, 1945, and were questioned about weather or not they had developed nuclear weapons. They were later released and Heisenberg later returned to Germany.
